What is Hijama? The Heart of Our Practice
Hijama Cupping Wellness
Hijama (Cupping) is a revered therapeutic practice with roots tracing back thousands of years, recommended in the Prophetic tradition for its profound detoxifying and healing effects. The word “Hijama” means “drawing out” in Arabic, which perfectly describes the process.
Using specialized cups, we create a gentle suction on specific “points” on the body.
This stimulates blood circulation, draws out stagnant blood and toxins, and triggers the body’s innate healing mechanisms. It’s a natural reset button for your body’s systems.
Dry Cupping (for muscle tension and circulation)
Wet Cupping/Hijama (for deep detoxification), tailoring each approach to your unique needs.

PROPHETIC TREATMENT
Hijama is a central part of Prophetic Medicine because it is extensively documented in the Hadith (the recorded sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ). In Islamic tradition, while the Quran provides the primary spiritual guidance, the Sunnah (the Prophet’s example) provides specific practical details on health and daily life.
The Connection Between Hijama and the Quran
While not in the text itself, Hijama is often discussed alongside the Quran in two ways:
As a Peer Remedy: The Prophet ﷺ mentioned the Quran and Hijama together as the two best forms of healing. He said: “The best of remedies you have is cupping (Hijama) and the Quran.”
The Night Journey (Isra’ wal-Mi’raj): Traditional narrations state that during the Prophet’s miraculous night journey, he did not pass by any gathering of angels except that they said to him: “O Muhammad, command your Ummah (nation) with Hijama.” (Sunan Ibn Majah)

Does How Does Hijama Therapy Work?
Hijama therapy involves creating a vacuum on specific points of thes kin using 9-11 plastic cups on either side of the spine, neck and shoulder blades. Cuts are made to the skin under the cups, and the cups are suctioned to create a vacuum. The vacuum pulls out the blood and other fluids from the skin, which removes toxins and promotes healing.
The traditional medical perspective towards Hijama therapy is to balance the body’s humours, improve blood circulation, and strengthen the immune system. Modern research demonstrates hijama as stimulating the release of the natural painkillers known as endorphins, hence increasing
one’s sense of relaxation.

Traditional vs. Modern Medical Perspectives on Hijama Therapy
Hijama therapy has been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat various health conditions. Hijama continues to be practised around the world. However, it has only recently gained recognition in modern medicine.
In traditional medicine, Hijama therapy balances the body’s humours, improves blood circulation, and strengthens the immune system. Traditionally, hijama treats various health conditions, including musculoskeletal pain, respiratory problems, digestive disorders, and skin problems.
Modern medicine recognises Hijama therapy as reducing pain and inflammation in the body, improving blood circulation, and boosting the immune system. It also has shown positive results for various health conditions like migraines, back pain, and arthritis.

The Benefits of Hijama Therapy for Women’s Health
Hijama therapy can be particularly beneficial for women’s health. It treats menstrual problems, fertility issues, and menopausal symptoms.
Hijama therapy can treat menstrual problems like heavy, irregular, and painful periods. It can aid in regulating one’s menstrual cycle, reduce cramping, and alleviate other common symptoms of menstruation.
Hijama therapy can treat fertility disorders such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, and infertility. Hijama may improve the quality and quantity of eggs, regulate hormones, and increase blood flow to the reproductive organs.
Hijama therapy can reduce symptoms of menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, and mood swings. It may also reduce the risk of osteoporosis and other common menopause-related health issues.
The Benefits of Hijama Therapy for Mental Health
Hijama therapy is beneficial for physical health and can improve mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression.
According to traditional medicine, Hijama therapy can help to balance the body’s energy and improve mental health by releasing negative emotions and promoting relaxation. Modern research has shown that Hijama therapy stimulates the release of endorphins and other feel-good hormones, reducing stress, anxiety, and depression.
Medical research studies highlight Hijama therapy as effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It may also dampen or reduce the presence of flashbacks, nightmares, and anxiety. Hijama can also improve the overall well-being and quality of life of people with PTSD.

Why Hijama is used for Spiritual Ailments
The belief that Hijama helps with spiritual issues is based on several factors:
Prophetic Example: Authentic narrations state that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was treated with Hijama on his head when he was affected by magic (Sihr) cast by Labeed ibn al-A’sam. Many scholars, including Ibn al-Qayyim, noted that this helped remove the physical symptoms caused by the magic.
The “Blood” Connection: A well-known Hadith states that “Satan (Shaytan) flows through the human being like the flowing of blood.” Practitioners believe that since Hijama removes “stagnant” or “bad” blood, it physically weakens the hold that spiritual entities or negative energies have on the body.
Physical Manifestation: Spiritual afflictions often cause physical symptoms—such as extreme fatigue, chronic headaches, unexplained pains, or “heaviness” in the shoulders. Hijama is used to “expel” the toxic effects of the magic or envy that have manifested in the body.
